Young IV, Carter Tabbed ACC Players of the Week

DURHAM – Redshirt senior safety Lummie Young IV and redshirt sophomore defensive tackle DeWayne Carter earned ACC Player of the Week honors following Duke's 30-23 win over Northwestern.

Young IV was tabbed the conference's defensive back of the week while Carter earned defensive lineman of the week nods as the pair helped the Duke defense cause five turnovers in the game, marking the most since 2014.

Young IV had a hand in two of Northwestern's five turnovers on Saturday, causing a fumble and recording an interception. A native of Anderson, S.C., Young IV got into the backfield to record a 10-yard sack and force a fumble in the first quarter before intercepting a pass in the second frame. He finished the game with seven tackles.

Carter forced two fumbles, tallied a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry against the Wildcats. The Pickerington, Ohio, native led by example in the fourth quarter, chasing down a 25-yard run and punching the ball out from behind to record Duke's fifth takeaway of the day. Carter recorded three tackles, including an 11-yard sack. He became the first Blue Devil to force two fumbles in a game since Trevon McSwain did so against Miami in 2019.
The ACC's other weekly honors included North Carolina's Sam Howell (quarterback), Ty Chandler (running back), Josh Downs (wide receiver) and Marcus McKethan (co-offensive line), NC State's Chandler Zavala (co-offensive line), Clemson's LaVonta Bentley (linebacker) and Will Shipley (rookie) and Boston College's Grant Carlson (specialist).
