DURHAM – Duke University women's golf senior
Gina Kim was named to the United States Curtis Cup Team on Monday, which will compete Aug. 26-28 at Conwy Golf Club in North Wales in the 41st Curtis Cup Match.
Kim was one of five women named to the U.S. squad on Monday – Jensen Castle, Rachel Kuehn, Brooke Matthews and Emilia Migliaccio. They will join Rose Zhang, Rachel Heck and Allisen Corpuz to represent the USA.
"It is such a huge honor for me to have the opportunity to represent the United States in the most prestigious amateur event in the world," said Kim. "I look forward to joining my teammates in Wales and having a great experience."
Duke will feature two representatives with the United States team as Blue Devil graduate Sarah LeBrun Ingram will captain the USA. Ingram, a 1988 Duke graduate, is a three-time Curtis Cup selection in 1992, 1994 and 1996, while also a two-time U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur champion.
"I couldn't be more excited to finally have the team in place," said Ingram. "Over the last two years, I've gotten to know many of these young ladies, and have a tremendous amount of admiration and respect for them as golfers and people. We're going to work hard over the next few weeks with the goal of bringing the trophy back to the United States."
A native of Durham, N.C., Kim is coming off winning the 2021 Pinehurst North & South Women's Amateur this summer and has moved up to No. 19 in the Women's Amateur Golf Ranking. As a junior with the Blue Devils, Kim won the ACC Individual Championship and earned First Team All-America accolades. She helped lead Duke to the 2021 ACC Championship and the 2019 NCAA Championship. Kim is a two-time semifinalist in USGA events – 2018 U.S. Girls' Junior and 2017 U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball. Kim was the low amateur at the 2019 U.S. Women's Open as she set the 18-hole scoring record for an amateur with a 66.
The alternates for the USA Team are, in order of ranking: Megan Schofill, 20, of Monticello, Fla., and Megha Ganne, 17, of Holmdel, N.J. Due to current health and safety guidelines, the alternates will travel with the team to Wales.
Kim joins a long list of former Duke women's golf standouts that have represented the United States at the Curtis Cup – Hannah O'Sullivan (2016), Lindy Duncan (2012), Jennie Lee (2008, 2006), Amanda Blumenherst (2008, 2006), Brittany Lang (2004), Liz Janangelo (2004), Leigh Anne Hardin (2002), Beth Bauer (2000, 1998), Jenny Chuasiriporn (1998), Ingram (1996, 1994, 1992), Stephanie Sparks (1994) and Mary Anne Widman (1984). Duke has also featured Leona Maguire (2016, 2014, 2012, 2010) and Lisa Maguire (2010) that have represented Great Britain & Ireland.
Since 1992, the Blue Devils have had at least one representative in the Curtis Cup, and in 14 of the 15 times it has been contested.
The Curtis Cup Match is a biennial international women's amateur golf competition between eight-player teams from the United States of America and Great Britain and Ireland (GB&I). It consists of six foursomes (alternate-shot) matches, six four-ball matches and eight singles matches over three days of competition. The USGA's International Team Selection (ITS) Working Group selects the USA Team, while The R&A selects the GB&I Team.
