TOKYO – Both Leona Maguire and Celine Boutier went low Wednesday in the second round of the Tokyo Olympics as the Duke graduates moved up the leaderboard at the Kasumigaseki Country Club in Kawagoe, Saitama, Japan.
With a 4-under, 67, Maguire moved up to tied for 11th and Boutier signed for a 3-under, 68, and is tied for 31st.
After a bogey on hole No. 1, Maguire got hot with four birdies over a span of five holes to move to 3-under-par for the day through eight holes. She added another birdie on No. 10, but a bogey on No. 11 kept the two-time Duke National Player of the Year at 3-under. Maguire turned in six straight pars before closing with a birdie on No. 18 to finish with a 67. She enters round three with a 4-under, 138.
Boutier opened her day with five consecutive pars, before sinking her first birdie of the day on No. 6. After a bogey on No. 7, she closed the front nine with back-to-back birdies. She had a bogey on No. 10, but rounded out her final eight holes at 2-under-par with birdies on No. 13 and No. 15 to finish with a 68. Boutier is currently 1-under through 36 holes with a 141.
Nelly Korda carded a 9-under, 62, in round two and moved into the lead with a 13-under, 129.
Boutier will open action tonight at 6:30 p.m. EDT in round three, while Maguire will tee off at 7:18 p.m.
