Blue Devils Ranked No. 24 in United Soccer Coaches Poll

DURHAM – For the first time since the 2019 season, Duke men's soccer is back in the national rankings, as the Blue Devils have checked in at No. 24 in the country in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) national poll.

The Blue Devils were last ranked in the top-25 on Oct. 7, 2019, when the same poll listed the team at No. 21. Duke sits between No. 23 and fellow newly ranked Lipscomb (98 points) and No. 25 Stanford (62 points).Â

The jump into the rankings comes on the heels of a clean sweep of the opening weekend of action, as the Blue Devils defeated Liberty, 3-0 on Friday, Aug. 27 and beat Merrimack, 4-0 on Sunday, Aug. 29. Much like the 2019 season, the Blue Devils opened the year with back-to-back shutouts, while delivering its largest scoring output in the first two games since 2014, when they scored nine goals.

Duke was led by huge performances from newcomers Luke Thomas and Felix Barajas, who each tallied four points over the weekend. The sophomore Thomas scored his first goal and assist in his collegiate debut, while adding another assist on one of two goals from Barajas in game two against Merrimack.

The Blue Devils are back in action on Thursday, Sept. 2, when they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., to face Michigan at 7 p.m. Duke will return home on Monday, Sept. 6, when it hosts Seattle at 7 p.m.
