DURHAM – Men's soccer sophomore midfielder
Luke Thomas has been selected Duke's Student-Athlete of the Week, following his role in Duke's weekend sweep of Liberty and Merrimack.
In his collegiate debut, Thomas registered a goal and an assist in the 3-0 season opening win over Liberty on Friday. Thomas delivered a cross into the box in the 59th minute, finding the head of teammate
Miguel Ramirez, who buried it into the upper right corner to extend Duke's lead to 2-0.
Thomas added his first goal in the 88th minute, when he picked up a ricocheted free kick by
Nick Pariano and finished the goal deep in the Flames box.
Thomas would add another point in a 4-0 win over Merrimack on Sunday, picking up an assist on a similar play as the Ramirez goal, but this time to the head of
Felix Barajas, who scored the fourth and final goal in the 70th minute. Thomas is tied for the team lead in points with Barajas with four.
The Blue Devils are back in action Thursday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m., when they travel to Ann Arbor to face Michigan.
