RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – A trio of Duke women's golfers – Virginia Elena Carta, Sandy Choi and
Gina Kim -- are set to kick off Stage I of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament that will be contested Aug. 19-22 on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course and Pete Dye Resort Course at Mission Hills Country Club as well as Marriott's Shadow Ridge Golf Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
A field of 339 golfers will battle in a 72-hole stroke play format, featuring a cut after 54 holes to a minimum of the low 125 players and ties. However, the next score, or scores, will be included within the cut if the total number of players does not exceed 156.
Action begins at 10:00 a.m. EDT all four days and the rotation of Dinah Shore-Pete Dye-Shadow Ridge is set for the first three rounds. Meanwhile, the final round will be played on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course.
Choi and Kim will get things going at 10:35 a.m., Thursday, while Carta will tee off beginning at 2:50 p.m. All times are EDT.
All three Blue Devils have won NCAA Championships at Duke with Carta and Kim being teammates on the 2019 title squad, while Choi was a part of the 2014 championship squad.
Kim, a senior at Duke, is coming off an impressive junior campaign where she won the ACC Individual Championship and over the summer she won the Pinehurst North & South Women's Amateur. A product of Durham, N.C., Kim was recently named to the U.S. Curtis Cup squad that will compete in North Wales Aug. 26-28.
A minimum of the top-95 players and ties will advance to Stage II from Oct. 21-24 in Venice, Fla., on the Panther Course and Bobcat Course at Plantation Golf and Country Club.
