GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke midfielder
Peter Stroud is one of 12 student-athletes to be named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's annual preseason watch list, as the league announced on Wednesday.
Â
Stroud is coming off a big freshman season, in which he was named to the All-ACC Third Team and the All-ACC Freshman Team. The Chester, N.J., native proved to be workhorse for the Blue Devils, starting all 17 games, ranking second on the team in total minutes with 1,591 and adding three assists. Stroud's three assists also ranked second on the team, as he played a critical role on the ball for the Blue Devils.
Â
Already off to a strong start in the preseason, Stroud helped set up the second of two goals in a 2-0 win at No. 24 High Point, feeding teammate
Thorleifur Ulfarsson with a great pass to spring him free and seal the game on the finish.
Â
The ACC also released the 2021 preseason poll, with the Blue Devils picked to finish fifth in the coastal division with 28 points. The team received the ninth highest vote total overall, checking in ahead of NC State, Syracuse, and Notre Dame.
Â
The 2021 regular season is set to get underway on Friday, Aug. 27, as the Blue Devils host Liberty at Koskinen Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
