DURHAM – Duke sophomore defensive tackle Gary Smith III as well as freshmen cornerback Dylan Merrell and running back Calvin Kim will be out of action indefinitely following surgeries to be performed this week.

Smith III underwent arthroscopic left knee surgery on Wednesday, while Merrell will have surgery to stabilize his left shoulder on Friday.

Smith III's surgery was performed by Dr. Ned Amendola. Merrell's surgical procedure will be performed by Dr. Brian Lau.

A surgery date to address Kim's injured right knee has yet to be determined.
Smith III played in 10 games during his rookie season, totaling nine tackles, including a season-high two against Virginia Tech and Miami.
