TOKYO – Former Duke star Quinn and the Canada Women's National Team advanced to the quarterfinals of the women's football tournament at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with a 1-1 draw against Great Britain on Tuesday.
Quinn started the match for the second time in these Summer Games and the fourth time in their Olympic career. They logged 67 minutes on the back end, helping hold Great Britain to zero goals through two-thirds of the match. Canada opened the scoring in the 55th minute on a goal by Adriana Leon. Quinn's side found itself in position to potentially finish first in the group standings as time wound down, but Great Britain found the equalizer in the 85th minute on a strike from Caroline Weir.
With five points on a 1-0-2 record in its first three matches, Canada finished second in Group E and advances to face Brazil in the quarterfinals on Friday, July 30. The match will kick off at 4 a.m. ET on the NBC Sports Network.
This marks the fourth consecutive Olympics in which Canada has advanced to the quarterfinals, and the second time that the team went through group play unbeaten. As the only nation in the world to medal at both the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Summer Games, Canada is looking to make history by getting back on the podium for a third consecutive time. Five years ago in Rio, Quinn helped Canada capture its second consecutive bronze medal.
