DURHAM – A trio of Duke women's golfers – Sophia Bae,
Megan Furtney and Rylie Heflin – are set to tee it up this week in three separate amateur tournaments.
Furtney, a rising junior out of St. Charles, Ill., will compete in the inaugural Sea Island Women's Amateur that will be contested July 26-29 at the Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island, Ga. The tournament will be played on the Tom Fazio Seaside Course. A field of 70 golfers are expected to see action in the event, over 72 holes of stroke play. Furtney will tee off July 27 at 8:15 a.m., to open the amateur.
An incoming freshman with the Blue Devils, Bae is set to play in the New Jersey State Golf Association 96th Women's Amateur Championship July 27-30 at the Rumson Country Club in Rumson, N.J. A product of Norwood, N.J., Bae is one of 54 competitors that will take the course for 36 holes of stroke play qualifying. The top 16 following qualifying will move on to match play. Bae will open play on July 27 at 8:20 a.m.
Heflin will compete in the Girls Junior PGA Championship July 27-30 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky. A field of 144 golfers will take the course for 72 holes of stroke play. The top 70 plus ties will advance following 36 holes. Heflin, who is from Avondale, Pa., will tee off begin action at 2 p.m., July 27 in the first round.
