DURHAM – Duke redshirt senior center Jack Wohlabaugh has been named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List, which is an award given annually to the nation's premier center by the Boomer Esiason Foundation.
Â
Wohlabaugh has played in 22 games as a Blue Devil, including 18 starts. The redshirt senior was elected a captain by his teammates prior to the 2020 season but missed the entire year after suffering a season-ending knee injury during preseason camp.
Â
The 6-4, 305-pound Akron, Ohio, native earned honorable mention All-ACC honors in 2019 and was named the ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week after Duke's win against Virginia Tech. Along with his conference accolades, Wohlabaugh also earned Duke's Dan "Tiger" Hill Award as the most outstanding offensive lineman after anchoring an offensive line that ranked fifth in the ACC in sacks allowed and 15th nationally in tackles for loss allowed.
Â
Also in 2019, he helped block for an offense that averaged 329.7 yards per game and 37 total touchdowns, while paving the way for the Duke offense to register 40-plus points in three-straight outings, and in four of five consecutive games.
Â
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football. Since its inception, award has raised over $4.5 million for the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.
Â
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only two-time winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
