TOKYO, Japan – Former Duke star Quinn and the Canada Women's National Team opened the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with a 1-1 draw against host Japan on Wednesday.
Quinn made their third Olympic start, playing 73 minutes in the midfield to help Canada pick up a point in its opening match. After the first slate of games, Canada rests tied for second in Group E, with Great Britain's three points leading the way.
Captain Christine Sinclair opened the scoring just six minutes into her 300th international appearance for Team Canada. Quinn's side went into halftime leading 1-0.
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Quinn logged 28 minutes in the second half before being subbed off at the 73' mark. Japan found an equalizer in the 84th minute on a goal by Mana Iwabuchi.
Canada's next matchup is against Chile on Saturday, July 24 at 3:30 a.m. ET. The match will air live on Telemundo and be streamed on fuboTV.
This marks Canada's fourth consecutive participation in women's soccer at the Summer Games. In the Rio Olympics five years ago, Quinn helped Canada capture its second consecutive bronze medal, marking the first time since 1908 that Canada won back-to-back medals in a team sport at the Summer Olympics.
