DURHAM, N.C. – For the 16th time in program history, the Duke volleyball team received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, as announced by the organization Monday.
First instituted in 1992, the AVCA Team Academic Award goes to collegiate and high school volleyball programs that maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.30 for the academic year.
Duke was one of eight schools to earn the honor in 2021, joining Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, NC State, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
Two Blue Devils – libero Mackenzie Cole and outside hitter Payton Schwantz – collected 2021 All-ACC Academic Team distinction this year, while 12 members of the Duke volleyball team earned a spot on the 2020-21 ACC Academic Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a GPA of 3.0 for the current academic year.
Duke opens the 2021 campaign Aug. 27 on the road against Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C.
