PINEHURST, N.C. ā Duke University rising senior
Gina Kim moved on to the match play portion of action Wednesday at the Pinehurst North & South Women's Amateur, which is being contested on the No. 2 and No. 4 courses in Pinehurst, N.C.
A native of Chapel Hill, N.C., Kim carded rounds of 72 and 75 during stroke play to finish in a tie for 25th with a 3-over, 147.Ā In the first round on Tuesday, Kim posted three birdies on her way to registering an even-par, 72, on course No. 4.Ā She got off to a slow start in the second round on course No. 2, with five bogeys over her first 11 holes, but played the final seven holes at 2-under-par with birdies on No. 15 and No. 16 to earn her way into a playoff for the final match play slots. Ā

Phoebe Brinker rebounded with a 1-under-par, 71, Wednesday and narrowly missed the cut with a 5-over, 149.Ā Blue Devil rising junior
Megan Furtney also missed the cut with rounds of 78 and 75.
Abbey Daniel notched rounds of 72 and 69 to earn medalist honors with a 3-under, 141. Ā
In the round of 32 of match play, Kim will face top-seeded Daniel.Ā The duo will go off first on Thursday, July 15 at 7 a.m., on Pinehurst No. 2. Ā
At the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship, Duke incoming freshmen Sophie Bae and Rylie Heflin both missed the cut.Ā Bae turned in rounds of 77 and 76, while Heflin signed for back-to-back rounds of 77. Ā
