DURHAM, N.C. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Monday that eight Blue Devils were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

Edu Güell and
Sean Sculley, sophomores
Michael Heller,
Samuel Rubell and
Andrew Zhang and freshmen
Andrew Dale,
Faris Khan and
Niroop Vallabhaneni were all selected to the exclusive list.

Sculley was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete for the third consecutive season, while Güell, Rubell and Zhang are back on the list for the second time. It also continues a strong run of academic success, with Sculley and Zhang being named to the 2021 All-ACC Academic Team earlier this summer.

Duke as a team was also acknowledged by the organization after being named to the 2021 ITA All-Academic Team.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letterwinners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.

To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
