DURHAM – Following strong performances both in the classroom and on the field, senior
Jameson Kavel and junior
Deja Davis were named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District Softball First Team, as announced by the organization Thursday afternoon.Â

This is the second CoSIDA Academic All-District honor for Kavel and the first for Davis. Both were named to the 2021 All-ACC Academic Team. Compiling a 3.88 grade point average, Kavel graduated from Duke with political science and psychology degrees. Davis completed her junior year with a 3.67 GPA, double majoring in sociology and environmental science/public policy.Â

Kavel's consistency continued during her senior season, earning a spot on the All-ACC First Team. The Duluth, Ga., native started all 56 games, posting a .320 batting average with 57 hits, 13 doubles, four home runs, 33 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. She led the team in doubles and stolen bases.

Davis added to her impressive awards collection for 2021, having reeled in NFCA All-America, NFCA All-Region First Team and All-ACC First Team accolades. The Cerritos, Calif., native was also a Top 25 Finalist for the National Player of the Year. She led Duke in batting average (.389), hits (65), triples (7), total bases (109), slugging percentage (.65) and on-base percentage (.444).

The 2020-21 Academic All-District Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

With All-District recognition, the pair of Blue Devils advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot and honorees will be announced at noon on July 29.
