Matthias Frick has been selected to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District III First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America recently announced. This is the first CoSIDA All-District honor for the recent Blue Devil graduate.
Frick is one of five players from the ACC to earn recognition across the five districts in which ACC schools are represented. Notre Dame had two selections, while NC State, Clemson and Duke each had one. He moves on to the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.
Duke's starting center back in all 16 games he played this past season, Frick helped to anchor the Blue Devil backline to four shutouts over the course of the year-long campaign. He went the distance in all but one game, ranking fourth on the team in minutes played, and contributed an assist in Duke's 3-0 win at NC State.
Frick has been a mainstay on defense throughout his career with the Blue Devils. The Feldkirch, Austria native started all 60 games he played and amassed over 6,100 minutes played during his career. A threat on offensive set pieces, Frick also chipped in five goals and four assists for 14 points. Additionally, Frick was a crucial part of posting 20 shutouts over four seasons.
A political science major, Frick owns an impressive 3.70 grade point average and graduated in May with a degree in political science. He garnered All-ACC Academic Team recognition in 2018 and 2019 and has been on the ACC Academic Honor Roll three times. The ACC will announce its men's soccer All-ACC Academic Team in the middle of June and ACC Academic Honor Roll in July.
Duke finished the 2020-21 campaign with a 4-10-3 overall record.
