DURHAM, N.C. – For the seventh time in school history, head coach
Dan Brooks and the Duke women's golf program concluded the 2020-21 campaign as the top-ranked team in the nation in the Golfweek team rankings.
Duke collected three wins on the season – the ACC Championship, Cavalier Match Play and the Gamecock Intercollegiate – while also placing no lower than third in eight events. The Blue Devils turned in a runner-up ledger at the NCAA Columbus Regional and closed the year by turning in a second-place finish in stroke play at the NCAA Championship, before advancing to the semifinals of match play.
The Blue Devils have finished in the top-10 of the rankings in each of the last 22 seasons and in the top-5 a total of 17 times. Other seasons Duke has closed the year ranked No. 1 include 2006-07, 2005-06, 2004-05, 2003-04, 2002-03 and 2000-01.
In the final rankings, Duke was No. 1 followed by South Carolina, Wake Forest, Stanford, Mississippi, LSU, Oklahoma State, Southern California, Baylor and Arizona State.
Duke saw four golfers earn All-America accolades on the season --
Gina Kim,
Erica Shepherd,
Jaravee Boonchant and
Phoebe Brinker. Kim collected ACC Individual Champion honors, while Shepherd picked up her first collegiate win at the Gamecock Intercollegiate.
In the individual rankings, the Blue Devils featured three golfers in the top-13 of the final listing. Kim was No. 11, while Shepherd was No. 12 and Boonchant was No. 13. Duke was the only school with three golfers in the top-13 of the rankings. Brinker closed the year at No. 47, while freshman
Anne Chen was No. 68.
Duke closed the year ranked No. 2 in the GolfStat.com ledger, while Kim (No. 10), Boonchant (No. 14), Shepherd (No. 15), Brinker (No. 17) and Chen (No. 88) were listed individually.
