WEYMOUTH, Mass. – The 14th-ranked Duke women's tennis team opened its two-match road swing Friday with a 6-1 victory at Boston College, which was played at the Weymouth Club in Weymouth, Mass. In the contest, graduate student
Meible Chi collected her 41st career ACC singles win to tie a Blue Devil school record.
With the win, the Blue Devils moved to 12-5 overall and 7-4 in the ACC, while the Eagles dropped to 4-8, 2-8.
The Blue Devils got off to a hot start in doubles play as the 39th-ranked duo of
Kelly Chen and
Georgia Drummy collected a 6-0 victory over Reagan Posorske and Maria Ross on the third court. After trailing 1-3 early, the Duke 10th-ranked team of
Chloe Beck and
Karolina Berankova won five straight games to clinch the doubles point for Duke with a 6-3 win.
When the point was clinched, the Blue Devil sixth-ranked tandem of Chi and
Margaryta Bilokin were tied, 5-5, with 61st-ranked Marice Aguiar and Laura Lopez.
Duke wasted no time adding to the score in singles action.
On court six, Berankova won her third straight singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Marion Conklin to put the Blue Devils ahead, 2-0.
A product of Weston, Fla., 42nd-ranked Chi turned in a 6-1, 6-2 win against Ross on court No. 4 to give Duke a 3-0 advantage. Chi improved to 18-3 on the season and 10-1 in the ACC, while matching
Ellyse Hamlin with 41 ACC career wins.
Seeing action on court No. 1 for the fourth time this season, 77th-ranked Drummy won the first set, 6-2 against Long. Drummy, who is from Dublin, Ireland, fell behind, 1-2, in the second set, before storming back to clinch the victory for Duke with a 6-2 second set triumph. She is now 4-0 this season on court one and 13-4 on the season in singles.
Bilokin, who is ranked No. 117 nationally, never trailed in her match against Haukova on court five on her way to winning 6-0, 6-3 to improve to 13-7 on the season.
On court two, Chen posted a 7-6, 6-1 win over Aguiar to notch her 10th singles win of the year and put the Blue Devils ahead, 6-0.
After taking the first set, 6-4, on court three, 34th-ranked Beck dropped a 5-7 second set and eventually fell in a super-tiebreaker to close the contest. The loss snapped a three-match winning streak for Beck, falling to 14-4 on the year.
Duke will conclude its road swing Sunday, April 11 at Syracuse with an 11 a.m., match slated to be aired live on ACC Network Extra.
