DURHAM – Former Duke women's basketball standout Jasmine Thomas was inducted into the Virginia High School Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2020 on Sunday, April 25.
"I am extremely excited about this," said Thomas. "It is a great honor and this means a lot to me and my family. My four years playing basketball at Oakton were great years, some of the best of my life."
As a four-year starter for Oakton High School, Thomas averaged 23.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, while recording 56 double-doubles and five triple-doubles. She helped Oakton to a 101-11 record in her four years as the program appeared in two region championships, two state semifinals and three district tournaments.
Thomas received many recognitions throughout her time at Oakton. Some of those include, Associated Press State Player of the Year, D.C. All-Met Player of the Year, EA Sports All-American First Team, Gatorade Player of the Year in Virginia and more.
Fairfax Stars EYBL Basketball tweeted, "Such a wonderful honor for such an amazing person. She personifies a professional as she did as an incredible student-athlete at all levels of competition and both on and off the court. Not enough words to properly describe how proud we are of Jasmine Thomas!!"
The Fairfax, Va., native went on to join the Duke women's basketball program where she was a four-year starter. Thomas helped lead Duke to two ACC Championships and two NCAA Elite Eight appearances. She became the fourth Blue Devil to record over 1,300 points, 400 rebounds, 400 assists, 200 steals and 50 blocks. Additionally, she was one of only two Blue Devils to notch 100 or more steals in a single season. The 2011 graduate was a two-time All-American in her junior and senior campaigns at Duke.
After training with the USA National Team in 2010, Thomas was selected in the 2011 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm. Thomas will compete in her 11th season in the WNBA this summer as she continues her career with the Connecticut Sun.
