DURHAM – Coming off helping Duke win its 22nd ACC Championship in school history and claiming ACC medalist accolades this past week, Blue Devil junior women's golfer
Gina Kim has been selected the Golfweek Player of the Week.
A native of Chapel Hill, N.C., Kim became the 14th Blue Devil to win the ACC Individual title and marked the 20th time in school history a Duke golfer was won the championship. She carded rounds of 68, 69 and 69 for a career-best 10-under-par, 206. It marked only the second time in ACC history that a golfer turned in three straight rounds in the 60s at the ACC Championship.
Boosted by Kim's 10-under-par ledger, the Blue Devils earned the No. 1 seed heading into match play to decide the ACC Championship. Kim carried the momentum into match play and knocked off Jennifer Cleary of Virginia to clinch the 3-2 victory for Duke in the semifinals.
In the finals against Florida State, Kim once again clinched the victory for the Blue Devils with a 3&2 win over sixth-ranked Beatrice Wallin to help the Blue Devils to a 5-0 victory and claim the team title.
The individual title for Kim marked her second collegiate victory and the first since The Landfall Tradition as a freshman. Her 10-under-par score matched the lowest under-par ledger for the Blue Devils in ACC Championship history.
Kim and the Blue Devils await the NCAA Regional Selection show, which will take place Wednesday, April 28 live on the Golf Channel.
