The Geneva, Ohio native won both events she competed in, taking the 400 meters with a personal best time of 52.23 seconds to beat the program record set by
Maddy Price at 52.30 in 2018. Aveni's run also bested the facility record of 52.91 set by
Madeline Kopp in 2017.
In the 4x100m relay, Aveni and teammates
Halle Bieber,
Elena Brown-Soler and
Cha'Mia Rothwell set the program record with a time of 44.02 seconds, beating their old record set last weekend by 0.26 seconds and the facility record set in 2018 by Duke's
Sydnei Murphy,
Kethlin Campbell,
Domonique Panton and
Maddy Price by 0.45 seconds.
With the two records set on Saturday, Aveni has now set four program records in the outdoor season and holds five in total, joining the 100m, 200m, and 4x400m relay.
Next up for Duke track & field is a return to Charlottesville, Va., for the Virginia Challenge from April 16-17.
