DURHAM – The second-ranked Duke women's golf team is set to compete in the Big Four Challenge Saturday, March 20, at the 6,351-yard, par-72 Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C. The event will feature the Blue Devils, third-ranked Wake Forest, NC State and North Carolina.
The format for the Big Four Challenge will be match play with five golfers from each team competing. Duke and NC State will face each other, while North Carolina and Wake Forest will compete in the morning. The two winning teams and losing teams will battle in the afternoon.
The morning matches are scheduled to start at 9 a.m., followed by a 1:30 p.m. match time for the afternoon contests.
There will also be 18 holes of stroke play with individual competitors for each team.
Duke will feature a match play lineup of senior
Jaravee Boonchant, junior
Gina Kim, sophomore
Megan Furtney, sophomore
Erica Shepherd and freshman
Phoebe Brinker. Blue Devil freshman
Anne Chen will compete individually.
Duke is coming off winning the Gamecock Intercollegiate and finishing as the runner-up with a 27-under-par ledger over the last two tournaments.
Potentially, a Saturday afternoon matchup with Duke and Wake Forest would be a rematch of the 2019 NCAA Championship in which the Blue Devils defeated the Demon Deacons, 3-2, to win Duke's seventh NCAA title in Fayetteville, Ark.
