PALM CITY, Fla. – Freshman
Ian Siebers posted his fourth top-20 finish in five starts this season, leading the Duke men's golf team at the Valspar Collegiate that concluded Tuesday at The Floridian GC in Palm City, Fla.
Siebers carded a final-round 74 and remained in red numbers for the tournament at 1-under 212, which was good for a tie for 16th place.
The Blue Devils finished 10th as a team at 20-over par against a field that included nine teams rated 40th or better by Golfstat. Florida State won the team event at 21-under, followed by Wake Forest (-17), Ohio State (-14), Arizona State (-9) and USF (-4) in the top five.
Siebers, who has finished 21st or better in each of the first five starts in his college career, opened with consecutive rounds of 69 on Monday before Tuesday's 74.
Senior
Qi wen Wong and freshman
Jimmy Zheng each posted top-35 finishes as Wong signed for a 78 on Tuesday for a 54-hole total of 5-over 218, while Zheng shot 76 on Tuesday to place 35th at 6-over 219.
Also for the Blue Devils, senior
Adrien Pendaries finished in a tie for 54th, while junior
Quinn Riley was tied for 57th.
Wake Forest's Alex Fitzpatrick was the individual medalist at 12-under 201, finishing three strokes clear of the field.
Duke is back in action at the Hootie Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay March 28-30.
