DURHAM – After bringing home the team and individual title in the last tournament, the seventh-ranked Duke women's golf team will hit the road this weekend for the Valspar Augusta Invitational, which will take place March 13-14 at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
The Blue Devils will walk 36 holes on Saturday, March 13 and then play 18 holes on Sunday, March 14.
Seeing action this weekend will be Augusta, Coastal Carolina, Duke, Florida State, Furman, Kennesaw State, Kent State, Louisville, Memphis, Notre Dame, Purdue, South Carolina, South Florida, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. The field includes five teams ranked in the top 15 in the latest WGCA Coaches Poll – Wake Forest (1), South Carolina (2), Florida State (4), Duke (7) and Virginia (10).
Duke will field a lineup of senior
Jaravee Boonchant, junior
Gina Kim, sophomore
Megan Furtney, sophomore
Erica Shepherd and freshman
Phoebe Brinker.
Boonchant, a product of Bangkok, Thailand, will make her 2021 debut with the Blue Devils this weekend. A three-time All-American, Boonchant owns a 71.95 stroke average to go along with seven top-five, 16 top-10 and 19 top-20 finishes over her career. Her 49 rounds of even or under par rank tied for seventh on Duke's all-time charts, while her 71.95 stroke average is third.
As a team, Duke is currently ranked No. 7 in the latest Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), which was released Friday.
The Blue Devils collected rounds of 282, 291 and 291 over three days to post an even-par, 864, to win the Gamecock Intercollegiate on March 3. It marked Duke's first tournament win of the season and head coach
Dan Brooks' 138th all-time victory, which continues to lead all NCAA coaches. Shepherd turned in a seven-under-par, 209, to claim her first collegiate win as well.
Duke will open action Saturday morning at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start off hole No. 1.
