DURHAM, N.C. — Top Drawer Soccer recently unveiled its Preseason Best XI teams and Duke rookie
Peter Stroud earned a spot on the Preseason Freshman Best XI. Traditionally released in the fall, Top Drawer Soccer did not compile one this past fall as most conferences did not compete.
Stroud is one of four ACC rookies on the Freshman Best XI and one of 10 from the conference to land on one of the four teams overall.
A native of Chester, N.J., Stroud joined the Blue Devils after playing two years with West Ham United. He played for both the U18 and U23 West Ham sides and has been a fixture in the U.S. Youth National Teams in recent years.
In the fall portion of the 2020-21 season, the rookie center midfielder started all eight games for the Blue Devils. He was the engine and quarterback to Duke's offense, going the distance in five of the eight contests.
In his second collegiate game, Stroud provided the assist on the overtime winner as Duke beat NC State in the final minute of the second overtime.
The Blue Devils (2-6) commence the spring season Friday, Feb. 12 against in-state foe Charlotte. The 49ers finished 2019 with a 12-4-4 overall record and were tabbed 19th in the Top Drawer Soccer preseason top 25 and 22nd by College Soccer News.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., on ACCNX.
