DURHAM, N.C. – Two former Duke captains -- Ross Cockrell and Thaddeus Lewis -- will represent the Blue Devils as members of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV.
Â
Cockrell is active as a cornerback, while Lewis serves on the staff as part of the Bill Walsh coaching fellow program. The duo has helped the Bucs win three postseason road games so far, but they will be heading home to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., for their 6:30 p.m. matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Â
Cockrell becomes the 17th former Blue Devil to suit up during a Super Bowl and the fifth over the last 10 years. His appearance will also mark the 27th overall time a Duke player participated in the prestigious game.
Laken Tomlinson and Daniel Helm were on the field last season when their San Francisco 49ers lost 31-20 to the Kansas City Chiefs. The last Duke players to win the Super Bowl were Juwan Thompson and Kenny Anunike with the Denver Broncos during Super Bowl L.
