Sowers Moves up the NCAA Charts
Michael Sowers put up a quiet six points (2g, 4a) in Duke's win at Towson, pushing him to eighth on the NCAA career scoring charts with 321 points. Sowers has 128 goals and 193 assists in his 51 career games, registering 25 hat tricks and 38 games with at least five points. He passed Tim Nelson's (Syracuse, NC State) 320. He is 34 points away from passing
Matt Danowski for fifth on the charts. Sowers' 193 assists are 38 shy of Pat Spencer's record of 231.
Having played only 51 career games, Sowers is averaging 6.29 points and 3.78 assists per game. Both of his averages rank fourth all-time in NCAA history, and are the highest in the past 30-plus years. No player has averaged more than six points per game since Tony Asterino finished his career at Siena with a 6.47 average. As for assists, only three players this century have completed their careers averaging more than three assists per game – Grant Ament (Penn State/3.49), Spencer (3.40), Lyle Thompson (Albany/3.21).
Joe Robertson Inches Close to 100
Senior captain
Joe Robertson scored three goals – his 22nd career hat trick – at Towson Saturday to push his career total to 97, leaving him three shy of becoming the 21st Blue Devil to score 100 goals in his career. For his career, Robertson has 97 goals and 30 assists for 127 points. He currently ranks 35th at Duke in career points and is 19 away from moving into the top 30 and 36 from the top 25.
Nakeie Continues to Shine
Nakeie Montgomery continued his stellar start to 2021. The senior leader tallied three goals at Towson – his second hat trick this season – to push his season points total to 11 after four games. He had 14 points in eight games last season from eight goals and six assists. He is already at seven goals this year and has dished our four helpers. He needs just 20 more points to become the 48th player in Duke's 100-point club.
Naso's Dominance at the X
Jake Naso had his best day yet at the faceoff X last weekend against Towson. The rookie draw man won 21-of-25 restarts and picked up 11 ground balls. The 84-percent win rate against the Tigers pushed his season total to .684 (52-of-76), ranking second in the ACC and sixth nationally. He ranks third in the conference with 6.75 ground balls.
Naso is on pace to take the most faceoffs as a true freshman in recent history. Senior
Joe Stein was 98-of-175 his rookie season, a mark Naso could reach in the next five games. Brendan Fowler went 86-of-155 his freshman year before going on to set the Duke record for faceoffs won (816) and ground balls (474). Â
