DURHAM, N.C. – Duke baseball right-handed pitcher
Cooper Stinson was named Third Team All-America by the
National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the organization announced Wednesday.
Â
Stinson joins teammate
Michael Rothenberg as Duke's preseason All-American nods. Rothenberg received third team honors from
D1Baseball earlier in the preseason.
Â
A native of Peachtree Corners, Ga., Stinson served as the team's Saturday starter a season ago. He sported a 3-0 record in the shortened 2020 season while carrying a 0.42 ERA to lead the ACC and rank 15th nationally. Stinson opened the 2020 campaign with 19.2 consecutive scoreless innings pitched.
Â
Stinson was one of nine ACC players named to the preseason All-America teams from the NCBWA. He was the lone starting pitcher from the ACC.
Â
Duke begins the 2021 season this weekend at Coastal Carolina. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m., with times of 2 p.m. and 1 p.m. for Saturday and Sunday, respectively. All three games in the series will be broadcast on ESPN+.
