Duke in the Pros Update – MLS Wrap-Up, FA Cup and Free Agency

DURHAM – Several former members of the Duke men's soccer program have had another active year on the professional circuit. Six Blue Devils spent the past season in Major League Soccer, while countless more have spent time at various professional clubs across the United States and world.
MLS
The Blue Devils alumni contingent in Major League Soccer wrapped up the 2021 season, as former players Sean Davis (New York Red Bulls) and Brian White (Vancouver Whitecaps FC) each made the playoffs. Davis started all 34 games, playing every minute of each game for a total of 3,060 minutes. White was electric following his move from the Red Bulls to Whitecaps, scoring 12 goals in 27 games.
Davis is entering free agency for the first time, while White will prepare for his second season in Vancouver.
Elsewhere, Jeremy Ebobisse made a midseason move from the Portland Timbers to the San Jose Earthquakes. Ebobisse played 24 games between the two teams, scoring five goals while tallying one assist. Sebastien Ibeagha also made a midseason move, transferring from New York City FC to Los Angeles FC. Ibeagha played in 21 games between the two sides.
MLS newcomers Will Pulisic, and Aedan Stanley spent the past season with Austin FC, with Stanley playing in nine matches.
Overseas
Former Blue Devil goalkeeper James Belshaw is leading Bristol Rovers in net, following a transfer from Harrogate Town at the beginning of the season. Belshaw has led the English Football League Two side into the third round of the 2021-22 FA Cup, following a win over Sutton United. Next up for Rovers is a date with EFL Championship side Peterborough United, on Jan. 8, 2022, at London Road Stadium in Peterborough.
In Scotland, the Blue Devils are represented by two former players in the Scottish Championship. Ciaran McKenna and Patrick Thistle stand in fifth place in the league near the halfway mark of the season, just one point out of a potential Premiership playoff spot. Markus Fjørtoft and Ayr United stand in seventh, after Fjørtoft joined the club in May from Greenock Morton.
Off the field, Fjørtoft and McKenna continue to host their podcast, BroPod, where they discus numerous topics including sports, media, finance and politics.
Elsewhere in Europe, Macario Hing-Glover recently completed another season at Helsinki IFK, who compete in Finland's top league Veikkausliiga. Hing-Glover and Helsinki IFK reached the championship round, where the top six teams compete for a league title, Champions League and Europa League placement.
Daniele Proch transferred to AC Delta Porto Tolle, in Italy's Serie D, where he's made two appearances since the move, while Robert Moewes registered two clean sheets in goal for Chile's A.C. Barnechea, who maintain their place in Primera B.
USL
Several former Blue Devils completed their respective seasons in the United Soccer League Championship. Carter Manley turned in a strong season with Rio Grande Valley FC, leading the team in games played (33) and minutes played (2,629), while registering two goals and two assists to help the team reach the conference semifinal.
Hassan Pinto spent the season with Loudoun United FC, playing in eight games for the Virginia based club. Issa Rayyan joined the Tacoma Defiance in March and went on to play in 18 games with the team, registering an assist in a win over San Diego Loyal SC.
Rayyan became a free agent and made news by signing a deal with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, on Thursday.
In USL League One, Sergi Nus played in 23 games with South Georgia Tormenta FC.
