DURHAM – Duke University women's golf incoming freshman Andie Smith is set to compete in the Dixie Amateur Dec. 16-19 at the Palm Aire Country Club Cypress Course in Pompano Beach, Fla. Â
A total of 113 amateur golfers will tee off beginning at 7 a.m., on Thursday and will play 72 holes of action. Smith will open play at 9:50 a.m., along with Sabree Lefebvre and Olivia Cosmano. Â
The Dixie Amateur originated in 1924 and has been transformed into an elite Florida event attracting a strong field of talented amateur players. The tournament has been played continuously since 1962 at various courses in South Florida.
Smith, a six-time winner on the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), signed with the Blue Devils in November and will arrive on campus in August. A 5-4 native of Hobe Sound, Fla., Smith attends The Benjamin School located in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Smith is coming off winning the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 4-1A State Championship this fall, where she carded back-to-back rounds of 69. Â
