DURHAM – Sophomore safety Jaylen Stinson was named ACC Specialist of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Â
The Opelika, Ala., native returned seven kickoffs for 195 yards against Pittsburgh on Saturday. Stinson also found the end zone during the game as he returned a kickoff 86 yards for a score, Duke's first kickoff return for a touchdown since Damond Philyaw-Johnson did so twice against Wake Forest in 2019. His 195 return yards ranks as the fifth-highest single-game total in program history.
Â
Stinson has served as the Blue Devils' primary kickoff return specialist this season, totaling 26 returns for 556 yards (21.38). In addition, he has started three games at safety for Duke and holds 27 tackles, three pass breakups and a tackle for loss.Â
Â
Stinson is the fourth Blue Devil to earn a conference weekly honor this season, joining senior Mataeo Durant (running back, Sept. 7), redshirt sophomore DeWayne Carter (defensive lineman, Sept. 20) and redshirt senior Lummie Young IV (defensive back, Sept. 20).
The ACC's other weekly honors included Pittsburgh's Kenny Pickett (quarterback) and John Petrishen (linebacker), North Carolina's Ty Chandler (running back) and Marcus McKethan (offensive lineman), Miami's Charleston Rambo (wide receiver) and Tyler Van Dyke (rookie), Florida State's Keir Thomas (defensive lineman) and Georgia Tech's Juanyeh Thomas (defensive back).
