DURHAM – Headlined by first team selection Mataeo Durant, seven Blue Devils earned All-ACC recognition as the league announced its honorees on Tuesday.
Durant garnered first team honors as a running back while wide receiver Jake Bobo, defensive tackle DeWayne Carter and linebacker Shaka Heyward were named to the third team. In addition, offensive guard Jacob Monk, return specialist Jaylen Stinson and center Jack Wohlabaugh received honorable mention honors. Wohlabaugh earned all-conference citations for the second time in his career.
Each of the conference's 14 teams earned at least three selections to the All-ACC teams, which were chosen by a voting panel of 50 media members and each of the league's head coaches. Three points were awarded for each first-team vote, two points for each second-team vote, and one point for each third-team selection.
Durant, a 6-1, 195-pound senior from McCormick, S.C., enjoyed a record-breaking season for the Blue Devils, eclipsing the program's single-season rushing yardage mark. He finished the year second in the ACC with 1,241 yards on 255 attempts with nine rushing touchdowns. He also compiled six 100-yard rushing games to tie for the most in school history. His 255-yard performance against Charlotte and 43 rushing attempts against Georgia Tech earlier this year also etched his name into the records book for the most in a single game. He closes his Blue Devil tenure third in Duke history with 10 100-yard rushing games, fourth in rushing yards (2,562), sixth in highest average per rushing attempt (5.24), eighth in rushing attempts (489), and tied for 13th in rushing touchdowns (18).
Bobo, a 6-5, 215-pound senior from North Andover, Mass., garnered a team-best 74 receptions for 794 yards with one score. His receiving yardage placed him ninth in the ACC, while his receptions had him tied for fifth. Of his 74 receptions on the year, 43 went for a first down, and over the course of the last two years, 65 of his 106 receptions have been for a first down. Bobo tallied three 100-yard receiving games this year and surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark for his career in a contest with Kansas. He concluded his Blue Devil career with 1,441 receiving yards on 125 receptions for 18th all-time in program history.
Carter, a 6-3, 300-pound redshirt sophomore from Pickerington, Ohio, concluded the season with 37 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, three pass breakups and six quarterback pressures. His caused fumbles ranked first in the ACC and tied for ninth in the nation. He finished second on the team in both tackles for loss and sacks. Earlier this year, Carter registered a career-high six tackles against Virginia Tech. For his career, he has 49 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, three pass breakups and six quarterback pressures.
Heyward, a 6-4, 220-pound redshirt junior from Dacula, Ga., led the team and ranked fifth in the ACC with 98 tackles. He chipped in a team-high 11.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, one interception, one pass breakup and five quarterback pressures. On the year, he garnered three double-digit tackle performances and led or finished second on the team in tackles in 10 of 12 games. He has 246 tackles in his Blue Devil tenure as well as 26.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, two interceptions, one pass breakup, three fumble recoveries and 11 quarterback pressures to his name.
Monk, a 6-3, 310-pound junior from Clayton, N.C., was a key component along Duke's offensive line this season. He had the third most snaps of the group with 777. Monk helped a unit that accumulated 5,011 yards of total offense. He also blocked for Durant to rush for a program record 1,241 yards this season. The offensive line unit finished sixth in the ACC in fewest sacks allowed with 27.
Stinson, a 5-8, 165-pound sophomore from Opelika, Ala., was Duke's kickoff return specialist this season. He recorded 34 of the Blue Devils' 43 returns and amassed 818 yards with two touchdowns. His number of returns as well as his return yardage was second in the nation and first in the ACC. Stinson's two kickoff returns for a touchdown also placed him tied for second in the country. He became the first Blue Devil to return two kickoffs for a touchdown in a single season since Damond Philyaw-Johnson in 2019.Â
Wohlabaugh, a 6-4, 305-pound redshirt senior from Akron, Ohio, anchored Duke's offensive line and finished with 904 snaps to lead the unit. Duke finished sixth in the ACC in fewest sacks allowed with 27 and helped protect an offense that accumulated 5,011 yards of total offense. Wohlabaugh also blocked for running back Durant to rush for a program record 1,241 yards this season.
