DURHAM – Two former Blue Devils, Detroit cornerback Mark Gilbert and Indianapolis running back Deon Jackson, made their NFL regular season debuts to highlight 14 former Duke football players during the eighth week of play in the National Football League.
Â
Gilbert made his first appearance for the Lions on Sunday, playing 16 total snaps, after recently being signed from Pittsburgh's practice squad. Jackson was elevated to Indianapolis' active roster from the practice squad on Saturday before seeing time in the Colts' narrow 34-31 loss to Tennessee on Sunday.
Â
New York Jets wide receiver Jamison Crowder shined in its come-from-behind win over Cincinnati, 34-31 on Sunday. Crowder had eight receptions for 84 yards. Rookie Michael Carter II started at cornerback for the Jets, totaling four tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup.
Â
League veterans Laken Tomlinson and Lucas Patrick remained staples on the offensive lines for their respective teams, the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers. Tomlinson started at left guard in the 33-22 win at Chicago, while Patrick earned the start at center as the Packers dealt Arizona its first loss of the season, 24-21, on Thursday night.Â

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones and offensive lineman Matt Skura were narrowly edged out by tight end Noah Gray and the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night. Jones finished 22-of-32 for 222 yards and two touchdowns. Skura started at center for the Giants, while Gray saw time for the Chiefs in their 20-17 win.
