LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Duke volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match (25-12, 25-16, 25-15) at No. 1 Louisville Friday evening in Louisville, Ky.Â
The top-ranked Cardinals remain undefeated (26-0, 16-0 ACC) as Jolene Nagel's squad dipped to 15-12 (6-10 ACC).Â
Louisville leads the league in several different categories, including hitting percentage, which was on full display Friday evening. The Cardinals hit an outstanding .547 percent with 34 kills and just five errors for the match.Â
This evening's match was also a battle of the two best serving teams in the ACC. The Cardinals registered 12 aces to Duke's six.Â
Duke was led offensively by senior Ade Owokoniran with seven kills. Setter Camille Nazor dished 10 assists while Mackenzie Cole tallied two aces. Lizzie Fleming and Gracie Johnson tallied Duke's lone block at the net. The Blue Devils were without a block in the match until late in the third set.
Louisville jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the first set to force Duke into using both its timeouts early. The Cardinals went on a 5-1 run to close out the set as the team hit .500 percent with 11 kills and just one error.Â
The Cardinals took an 11-5 lead early in the second, but the Blue Devils clawed back to cut the lead to three (15-12) as Owokoniran tallied consecutive kills from Nazor. Georgia Stavrinides connected with Nazor on the right side just before notching an ace to cut the deficit to two (16-14). Nagel called a timeout as Louisville pushed to a 20-14 lead and ultimately took a 2-0 advantage in the match.Â
Through two sets, the Cardinals hit a whopping .632 percent with 25 kills and just one hitting error from setter Tori Dilfer.
Duke setter Alex Springate found Owokoniran for a big swing out of the middle in the third frame despite Louisville taking a 9-4 lead. Fleming tallied her fourth ace of the season (22-15) but a late Duke push wasn't in time.Â
Louisville was led by Anna Stevenson with 10 kills to hit .600 percent as setter Dilfer dished 26 assists.Â
Duke plays its last road contest Sunday against Syracuse at 1 p.m., on ACCNX.
