DURHAM – Duke men's tennis head coachÂ
Ramsey Smith announced Tuesday the signing ofÂ
Teddy Truwit to the class of 2026.
"We are thrilled to announce the addition of Teddy to the Duke tennis program," Smith said. "Maciek (Sykut) and I both regard Teddy as a natural fit in our program as he already embodies the qualities we look to develop within the team. Teddy is a great competitor with a passion for the game, and he is just beginning to scratch the surface of his potential as a player. His coach, Patrick Hirscht, has done a tremendous job transitioning Teddy from a counterpunching style to an all-court aggressive game which is well suited to his size and physicality."
Truwit is a Darien, Conn., product, a blue chip prospect with a current ranking of No. 20 in theÂ
TennisRecruiting.net national rankings, and is listed as the No. 1 prospect from the state of Connecticut by the organization. Truwit also currently owns a TennisRPI national ranking of 9 as well as a UTR rating of 12.45.Â
"Duke was a perfect combination of athletics and academics," Truwit said. "It has an incredible sports culture as well as an amazing campus with great facilities."
Over the last year, Truwit has gone 26-12 in singles action, winning multiple national L3 titles. He recently claimed the boys singles title during his first ever appearance on the ITF tour at the ITF J4 in Atlanta after he defeated No. 3 seed Fnu Nidunjianzan of China, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4, garnering him an International Tennis Federation junior ranking of 754.Â
In doubles play this past season, he garnered a 6-3 mark and throughout his career, has won numerous national L3 titles. Truwit also won a Silver Ball after making the finals of the 2019 USTA National Doubles Championships in the 16s division.
"Teddy has a great opportunity ahead of him to thrive in our culture and player development process," Smith added. "I can't wait for him to start competing with the Duke 'D' on his chest!"
