DURHAM – The Voice of the Blue Devils, David Shumate, sat down with junior wide receiver Jalon Calhoun for a brief question and answer session.
DS:Â Talking about pregame routines, who in the wide receiver room has the most intricate or detailed way to get ready for a game? JC:Â I think Jake Bobo does because he has such a repetitive routine. Every day he will come in and go in the training room and do a long routine of stretching out everything. Then, he'll hit the field and he's ready. He's got a solid routine. As a group, we have a good routine too, because we get out pregame and all do the same amount of drills to get ready and prepped for the game.
DS:Â Being a junior, you've been on campus for a while. What is your favorite spot on campus? JC:Â The Loop. It's got good pizza, good food and everything. I love to eat, so the Loop for sure.
DS: Flashback to 2019 and the game at Virginia Tech, do you remember the vibe pregame going into the game? JC: It was crazy. It was probably the second-biggest game I had played in. Fan wise - the atmosphere was crazy. It was a great vibe going in, we were really pumped before the game.
DS: Late in the half, there was a long march down the field and Duke was on the 25 yard-line. The play call comes in, and I know you had been working on it in practice, but the trick play. Did you know it was coming that week? JC: Yeah, we just put it in that week. When we called it, it was just the fact of me being ready. I was ready for it the whole week, I just wanted it to be called so I could show that I could throw the ball and make a play. I knew I was going to complete the pass. On Friday, that's all I did after practice is just throw and rep it like 30 times. Then, it happened.
DS: Well, you knew you could complete it because you played quarterback in high school. Prior to that week, how much had you thrown the ball to get ready? JC: That week was the only time I threw the ball, and I haven't thrown the ball since.
