DURHAM – Duke men's soccer sophomore defender
Lewis McGarvey has been named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week, as the organization announced on Monday.
Â
The Belfast, Northern Ireland native was named to CSN's Team of the Week for the first time in his collegiate career, following his game-winning goal in a 3-2 overtime decision over Virginia on Oct. 29.
Â
One of five team captains, McGarvey is the only Blue Devil to start all 15 games this season and leads the team in total minutes with 1,372, playing primarily as a center back. McGarvey is also closing in on 3,000 career minutes played (2,832) and has been a mainstay in the Blue Devils lineup since arriving in Durham. The sophomore is in the midst of a career-best offensive season, with two goals and one assist for five points, while playing a key defensive role.
Â
It marks the second time McGarvey has been selected to a national team of the week, after being named to TopDrawerSoccer's weekly list on Oct. 9, 2020.
Â
McGarvey and the Blue Devils are set to host the ACC Tournament quarterfinal on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m., in Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils will face either sixth-seeded Wake Forest or No. 11 seed Virginia.
