EVANSTON, Ill. – The Duke women's tennis program used another strong day of doubles, sweeping both matches as part of day two at the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Northwestern in Evanston, Ill.
Day two featured matches entirely against the host Wildcats, after facing opponents from Michigan State and Notre Dame in the opener.
The day began with a clean sweep of doubles, as the freshman tandem of
Ellie Coleman and
Emma Jackson took down 2021 Duke graduate
Ema Lazic and her teammate Justine Leong, 6-2. The older, 24th-ranked duo of senior
Margaryta Bilokin and graduate student
Eliza Omirou added another win at 6-4.
Jackson and Coleman would face their doubles opponents in singles, with Jackson earning a 6-4, 6-3 over Lazic. Jackson has yet to drop a set, playing back in her home state of Illinois for the first time as collegian.
Coleman also earned a win, rallying from a set down to take a tight set, 7-5, and roll from there. A Midland, Mich., native, Coleman would go on to beat Leong 2-6, 7-5, 6-1.
The Blue Devils will resume play at 10 a.m., against more opponents from Northwestern in the final day of action at the Wildcat Invitational.
