After five games, senior running back Mataeo Durant finds himself atop the league charts in numerous categories. Most notably, he ranks first in total touchdowns by a running back (9), and second in scoring (54 points), rushing touchdowns (8), rushing yards (636) and all-purpose yards per game (160.60).
Mataeo Durantcontinues to climb up the Blue Devils' all-time rushing chart. His 114 yards against North Carolina moved him into 10th place with 1,957 career yards. He is currently 43 yards away from becoming the ninth Duke player to amass 2,000 career rushing yards.
Redshirt junior linebacker Shaka Heywardhas two double-digit tackle games this season and has led Duke in tackles in three of its five contests. The Dacula, Ga., native is currently third in the ACC with 48 tackles.
Junior wide receiver Jalon Calhounregistered 103 yards on six catches last Saturday against North Carolina to became the 40th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career receiving yards (1,094). He earned 100-plus receiving yards for the first time since doing so against North Carolina A&T in 2019.
During its last outing, Duke recorded its third consecutive game with a 100-yard rusher (Mataeo Durant, 114) and a 100-yard receiver (Jalon Calhoun, 103). The feat of having a 100-yard rusher and a 100-yard receiver in the same game three times in a single season has happened just three other occasions in 2013 (3x), 1989 (5x) and 1970 (3x).
HOME WIN STREAK
The three home wins against North Carolina A&T, Northwestern and Kansas marked the fifth time under head coach David Cutcliffethat Duke recorded a three-game home winning streak. The other years were in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2017. In each of those seasons, the Blue Devils went to a bowl game.Â
LEADER OF THE RUN GAME
Senior Mataeo Duranthas accumulated 636 rushing yards on 106 attempts with eight TDs in Duke's first four games. The Plum Branch, S.C., native is currently tied for sixth in the nation in rushing touchdowns, tied for fourth in total scoring (54 points), fourth in rushing yards and fifth in rushing yards per game (127.20).
Thanks to his 100-plus rushing yard performance against North Carolina, Durant is one of six players in program history to record eight or more career 100-yard rushing games. He is the first Blue Devil to achieve the mark since Chris Douglas did so from 2001-03.
