GALLOWAY, N.J. – With a final round of 8-under-par, 63, former Duke University women's golf standout Celine Boutier claimed her second career LPGA victory as she won the ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer on Sunday at the Seaview, a Dolce Hotel Bay Course in Galloway, N.J.
"It has been an insane year," said Boutier. "I have to add the Olympics to that, which was the most amazing experience, and to back it up with winning the Solheim Cup on U.S. soil is definitely very special. To top it off, winning my second [LPGA Tour] win is just unbelievable. I can't even rank which one is better. It's just so different. But it's definitely going to be a very special year for me."
Boutier, a 2014 National Player of the Year with the Blue Devils, carded rounds of 66, 70 and 63 to finish with a 14-under, 199, to win by one stroke ahead of three other golfers. She started strong on Sunday with six front-nine birdies. She then sank a 12-foot birdie on No. 16 and a 5-foot birdie on No. 18 to surge into the lead late. Boutier finished her round and had to wait for the previous day leaders to conclude their rounds.
The 8-under, 63, was a season best for Boutier and was the lowest 18-hole score of the event.
With the victory, Boutier earned $262,500 and surpassed the $2 million mark in career earnings with $2,164,532. The win gives her two in her short career as she also won the 2019 ISPS Handa Vic Open. She matched Patricia Meunier-Lebouc and Anne-Marie Palli for most wins by a French golfer in LPGA Tour history.
It marks the fourth LPGA event that a former Duke women's golfer has come out on top as Brittany Lang won the U.S. Women's Open (2016) and Manulife Financial LPGA Classic (2012).
Former Duke two-time National Player of the Year Leona Maguire finished in a tie for 34th with a 5-under, 208, while Ana Belac placed tied for 64th with a 1-under, 212.
