DURHAM, N.C.βThe Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Championship bracket isΒ setΒ and No. 24 Duke will face No.Β 2Β seedΒ SyracuseΒ inΒ the quarterfinals, Thursday, Nov. 4 at J.S. Coyne Stadium at Syracuse University. All six games in the tournamentΒ will be televisedΒ on ACC Network with the championship game being played Nov. 7 at noon.Β Β
The Blue Devils, the No. 7 seed, are 6-10 overall and went 0-6 in ACC play.Β Ninth-rankedΒ Syracuse garnered the second seedΒ after posting a 4-2 record against ACC foes.Β The Orange fell to Louisville, 2-1, in the decisive match for the ACC regular season title and No. 1 seed in the tournament.Β Β
The Orange captured the regular season matchup, 7-2, at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium. The two goals scored by the Blue DevilsΒ are tied for the most allowed in a game by Syracuse this season.Β Β
Freshman forwardΒ Logan ClouserΒ and graduate student midfielderΒ MaryKate NeffΒ lead the offense with 13 points apiece.Β ClouserΒ is the top goal scorer with five tallies and three assists, while Neff has four goals and five assists.Β Lexi DavidsonΒ is right behind them with 11 points from three goals and five assists.Β Β
ClouserΒ has come on strong in the second half of the season, registering at least one point in seven of the final eight regular season contests. In her first eightΒ gamesΒ she fired off just two shots. In the final eight, the Bethlehem, Pa., native took 15 shots and put 12 of them on goal.Β Β
In goal,Β Piper HampschΒ has been Duke's primary starter withΒ 14 starting assignments. She leads the league and ranks 30th nationally in saves per game at 4.75.Β Grace BrightbillΒ has a pair ofΒ startsΒ in the cage andΒ played inΒ five games overall. She is 2-1 overall and has 22 saves.Β Β
Syracuse ranks second in the ACC and sixth nationally withΒ a 0.97 goalsΒ against average.Β Brooke BorzymowskiΒ is fourth nationally withΒ a 0.89 goalsΒ against average. The Orange is equally as stout offensively,Β averagingΒ 3.34 goals per game to rank sixth among Division I program.Β
The winner betweenΒ the Blue Devils and OrangeΒ willΒ faceΒ either No. 6 Wake Forest or No. 3 North CarolinaΒ in the semifinals, Nov. 5 at 3:30 p.m.Β Β
