ABOUT WINSTON-SALEM STATE
Winston-Salem State is a Division-II program that competes in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA)…The Rams are the reigning CIAA Tournament champions after having won the 2019-20 event in Charlotte. The 2020-21 season was canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic…Cleo Hill Jr., is the third-year head coach of the Rams, having gone 12-15 in his first season and 19-10 with a CIAA title in his second…WSSU won 13 of its final 15 games in 2019-20…Saturday's game marks the Rams' second visit to Cameron Indoor for an exhibition game. With the release of the Associated Press preseason poll on Oct. 18, Duke was ranked No. 9 -- extending a notable streak…The Blue Devils have now been ranked in the top 10 at least once in 26 consecutive seasons -- the longest active streak nationally…The No. 9 ranking also marked the 14th consecutive season that the Blue Devils made their debut in the top 10.
ACC PRESEASON PICKS
Duke was selected as the favorite to win the 2021-22 ACC Championship, as chosen by media members…Picked as the preseason ACC favorite for the seventh time in the last nine years, the Blue Devils received 47 first-place votes to top the poll, followed by Florida State, North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech…Paolo Banchero swept the individual awards, as the newcomer from Seattle, Wash., was tapped both the Preseason Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year while landing on the Preseason All-ACC First Team…Banchero becomes the conference's first player to sweep both Preseason Player and Freshman of the Year accolades since at least 2000. ..Junior Wendell Moore Jr., and sophomore Mark Williams each earned a spot on the Preseason All-ACC Second Team, while Trevor Keels was second behind Banchero in Preseason Freshman of the Year voting.

- The ninth-ranked Duke men's basketball team plays its lone exhibition game on Saturday by welcoming Winston-Salem State to Cameron Indoor Stadium.
- The game tips at 1:30 p.m. ET on ACC Network Extra with Ryan Craig and Debbie Taylor on the call. On the radio, Chris Edwards and John Roth have the call on the Blue Devil Sports Network from Learfield (96.5FM & 610AM in Durham, the Varsity app and GoDuke.com).
- The Blue Devils have traditionally played two exhibition games, but this season chose to play one exhibition game and one closed scrimmage -- that came vs. Villanova on Oct. 23 in Washington, D.C.
- The Rams, who had their entire 2020-21 season canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic, have not played since Feb. 29, 2020 -- a 63-62 victory over Fayetteville in the CIAA championship game at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte.
- Under third-year head coach Cleo Hill Jr., Winston-Salem finished the 2019-20 season 19-10, which included 13 wins in its final 15 games.
- The 2021-22 campaign marks the 42nd season at Duke for Hall of Fame Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski, where he has won 1,097 games and five national championships. Entering his 47th season overall, Coach K is the winningest coach in D-I history with 1,170 victories.
- Incoming freshman Paolo Banchero was named both the ACC Preseason Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, while returning standouts junior Wendell Moore Jr., and sophomore Mark Williams were named second-team Preseason All-ACC.
- Williams, who emerged late in the season as a factor in the front court, was named second-team All-ACC Tournament. In Duke's final game of the season -- a win over Louisville in the second round of the ACC Tournament -- Williams posted his second career double-double with career highs in points (23) and rebounds (19), setting an ACC Tournament record for rebounds by a freshman.
- Williams scored 100 points over his final six games and averaged 16.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and shot 44-of-59 (.746) over that stretch, which included both of his career double-doubles.
- Duke, which finished last season 13-11 overall and 9-9 in the ACC, played each of its home games at Cameron Indoor Stadium and a majority of its road games with no fans in attendance.
