DURHAM – Duke graduate student
Tess Boade was named the ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore
Emily Royson was tapped the Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Blue Devils to a pair of home wins over ranked opponents.
Of the three instances in which a team has swept the conference's weekly awards this season, two have come from the Blue Devils, as Boade and junior goalkeeper
Ruthie Jones were named the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, on Sept. 17.
In Duke's thrilling overtime victory against No. 15 Notre Dame on Thursday, Boade assisted on
Michelle Cooper's game-winner just 50 seconds into the extra period. The Highlands Ranch, Colo., native received the ball at midfield and sent a perfect through pass behind the Fighting Irish defense that Cooper was able to catch up to before dribbling around a charging goalkeeper and burying her shot.
Boade followed up with her own game-winning tally on Sunday to lift No. 6 Duke to a 1-0 win over top-ranked Florida State. In the 27th minute, a long feed from Royson went through Cooper and rolled to Boade at the top of the 18-yard box. The graduate student turned towards goal and fired a left-footed shot that handcuffed goalkeeper Mia Justus, trickling just over the line to put the Blue Devils in front.
The goal was Boade's seventh of the season and her fourth game-winner. She has 10 points (four goals, two assists) over her last five contests. In conference-only matches, Boade's five goals and 13 points are both tied for third in the ACC.
She was also named the TopDrawerSoccer.com Player of the Week.
Royson picks up her first career Defensive Player of the Week honor after logging 181 combined minutes on Duke's back line over the two wins. She helped the Blue Devils limit Notre Dame to just one shot on target on Thursday before notching her third assist of the season on Boade's goal versus the Seminoles on Sunday. Royson is a key member of a defensive unit that has collected four consecutive shutouts. And ranks fourth in the nation in goals against average (0.45). The Toms River, N.J., native has played every minute in Duke's last nine matches, totaling 851 minutes in that stretch.
Duke (12-2-1, 6-2-1 ACC) wraps up the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 28, when the Blue Devils travel to Louisville (7-6-2, 3-5-1 ACC) for a 5 p.m. match on ACC Network.
