DURHAM – A duo of freshmen on the Duke women's swimming and diving team etched their names in the program record books after their first collegiate meet.
Rookies
Yixuan Chang and
Margo O'Meara shined for the Blue Devils in No. 24 Duke's 170-130 win over the 18th-ranked Hokies.
Chang swept all three events she competed in, the 200, 500 and 1,000 freestyle. Her mark of 10:00.57 in the 1,000 free ranks seventh in program history. The Stamford, Conn., native's time of 1:48.77 in the 200 free narrowly missed the top-10 times in program history by one hundredth of a second.
O'Meara enjoyed a stellar debut on the boards, placing first in the three-meter and second in the one-meter. Her scores of 371.48 (three-meter) and 316.35 (one-meter) rank second and fourth all-time in program history, respectively. O'Meara, a native of St. Louis, Mo., recorded the highest score on the three-meter springboard since Olympian
Abby Johnston set the program record in 2010.
