VENICE, Fla. – A trio of Duke women's golfers –
Gina Kim,
Jaravee Boonchant and Virginia Elena Carta – are set for Stage II of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament, which will take place Oct. 21-24 on the Panther and Bobcat Courses at Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice, Fla.
A total of 179 golfers will compete over 72 holes with a stroke-play format featuring no cut. Duke's golfers will be looking to finish in the top 45, plus ties, at Stage II to be eligible for LPGA Q-Series from Nov. 29 – Dec. 12 on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama.
Stage II will begin Oct. 21 at 8 a.m. all four days with the rotation from the Bobcat Course and Panther Course over the first two rounds. The entire field will be re-paired by score for round three, with lower scores playing the Panther Course and higher scores playing the Bobcat Course. In the final round, players will alternate the course played in round three and be re-paired by score. If a player started the third round on the Bobcat Course, she will be re-paired by score and play the Panther Course in the final round.
Kim, a current senior on the Duke squad, is coming off claiming medalist accolades at Stage I of LPGA Qualifying School with a 15-under, 273, at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course in Rancho Mirage, Calif. A product of Durham, N.C., Kim posted rounds of 71, 69, 66 and 67 for a 15-under, 273, which was one stroke ahead of Huize Lian (274). Kim is one of 29 amateur golfers in the event.
Carta, a 2019 Blue Devil graduate, carded rounds of 71, 71, 71 and 69 to place tied for 19th with a 6-under, 282, to move on to Stage II. After graduating from Duke in 2021, Boonchant was exempt from Stage I.
The trio of Kim, Carta and Boonchant were teammates on Duke's 2019 NCAA Championship squad.
Carta will open things for the Blue Devils at 8:33 a.m., while Kim (12:43 p.m.) and Boonchant (1:05 p.m.) go off in the afternoon on Thursday.
