CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Duke dropped a 38-7 decision to North Carolina on Saturday afternoon at Kenan Stadium.

Senior running back Mataeo Durant totaled 114 rushing yards and junior wide receiver Jalon Calhounrecorded 103 receiving yards to lead the Duke offense. The duo became the 34th pair of teammates to register 100-plus rushing and 100-plus receiving yards, respectively, in a single game in program history.

Duke found itself in a 24-0 hole heading into halftime but were able to break through on its first play from scrimmage after the break. Graduate student quarterback Gunnar Holmberg connected with Calhoun for an 80-yard catch-and-score to pull the Blue Devils to within 24-7 early in the third quarter.

The reception was the 10th longest in program history and the longest since Daniel Jones found T.J. Rahming for an 85-yard score in 2018.

Unfortunately, two final scores by the Tar Heels in the fourth quarter ultimately sealed the win for the home side.

Holmberg finished 17-of-24 passing for 184 yards and one touchdown. Durant's 114 yards on 19 carries marked his third consecutive game with 100-plus rushing yards and the eighth of his career.

Calhoun led the receiving corps with six receptions for 103 yards and one score.

Redshirt senior safety Lummie Young IVand sophomore safety Da'Quan Johnson led the Duke defense with seven tackles each. Redshirt sophomore defensive tackle DeWayne Carter found his way into the North Carolina backfield, recording two tackles for loss, including a career-high 1.5 sacks. Redshirt sophomore R.J. Obenled the team with three quarterback hurries, totaling a team-leading seven on the season.

The Blue Devil defense combined for five sacks in the game, which were the most since Oct. 31, 2020, against Charlotte.

Duke is back at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium for a matchup with Georgia Tech at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9. The game will be broadcast on RSN.
