ATLANTA - Duke volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision (25-16, 25-10, 25-16) to No. 16 Georgia Tech on Sunday at O'Keefe Gymnasium.Â
With the loss, the Blue Devils dip to 12-7 (3-5 ACC), while the Yellow Jackets improve to 15-3 (6-2 ACC).Â
Georgia Tech featured an offense that ranks 18th in the nation and it was on full display Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets hit an impressive .418 percent for the match with 37 kills and just nine errors.Â
Duke was led by Ade Owokoniran with eight kills as setter Alex Springate tallied 14 assists. Libero Mackenzie Cole added seven digs off of a powerful Yellow Jacket offense. As a team, Duke only registered one total block from Owokoniran and Georgia Stavrinides. Pacing the serving corps was Gracie Johnson, who recorded an ace.Â
Duke trailed by one (13-12) in the opening frame before Georgia Tech's offense came alive late in the first to take the win 25-16.Â
Georgia Tech's offense erupted in the second and third sets as it hit a whopping .684 and .414 percent, respectively, with 29 combined kills and just four errors.Â
In the third, Duke pulled within six (21-15) with help from Georgia Tech's 10th service error of the match but couldn't hold off the Yellow Jackets as Breland Morrissette added a kill and two blocks to help capture the match.Â
Georgia Tech was led by Mariana Brambilla and Julia Bergmann with 10 kills each and only three errors combined while setter Matti McKissock dished out 29 assists.Â
Duke will remain in the Triangle to take on North Carolina on Friday and NC State on Sunday. The match against the Wolfpack will be broadcast on ACCN.
