After going 2-1-0 in a three-game home stand, No. 8 Duke heads back on the road for a matchup with Wake Forest on Friday, Oct. 15.
The match kicks off at 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra with Ty Collins on the call.
The Blue Devils responded to a 2-1 double-overtime loss to NC State on Oct. 7 by downing Pittsburgh, 5-0, at home on Sunday, Oct. 10.
Head coachRobbie Churchpicked up his 100th career ACC regular-season victory in the Pitt win. Church holds a 100-62-33 record in conference matches since arriving at Duke in 2001.
Duke is 8-4-1 in its last 13 road games dating back to the start of the 2020-21 campaign, outscoring its opponents 22-11 in that stretch.
Junior goalkeeper Ruthie Jones ranks third in the ACC in save percentage this season (.816) and has the lowest career goals against average in Duke program history (0.64, minimum 20 games played).
Graduate student Tess Boade has three goals and two assists in six matches against ACC opponents this season, including goals in each of her last two games. Boade is tied for fourth in the ACC with eight points in conference play.
Senior Mackenzie Pluck is tied for seventh in the ACC with five assists this season and has recorded a helper in three of her last four matches.
Freshman Michelle Cooperpaces the team with seven goals and 17 points in nine games this season. She is the first player in program history to score six times over her first six career matches.
Cooper's 1.89 points per game lead the ACC.
Sophomore Katie Groff scored her first two career goals against Pittsburgh. The Raleigh, N.C., native has started all 12 matches for Duke this season.
The Blue Devils are ranked No. 8 in this week's United Soccer Coaches national poll, marking the 24th consecutive poll that Duke held a spot in the top 10.
DUKE VS. WAKE FOREST
Duke and Wake Forest are set to square off for the 34th time, with the Blue Devils holding a 19-9-5 advantage in the all-time series.
Robbie Church's side is 5-0-1 over its last six matches against the Demon Deacons, with each of the five wins being a one-goal difference.
The Blue Devils are 7-5-2 all-time when facing Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, including a thrilling 4-3 overtime win in the 2020-21 season opener.
Marykate McGuire proved to be the hero for Duke in that match on Sept. 10, as she tied it at 3-3 in the 88th minute before netting the overtime winner at the 95:08 mark.
Just 10 days later in Durham, the two teams battled to a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes and two 10-minute extra periods.
Duke and Wake Forest have met four times in the ACC Tournament and once in the NCAA Tournament -- a 4-1 Blue Devil victory in the 2011 national semifinals in Kennesaw, Ga.
SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACONS
Wake Forest brings a 12-2-0 record into Friday night's showdown and currently sits fourth in the ACC standings with a 4-2-0 conference mark.
The Demon Deacons are coming off a 4-3 win against then-No. 17 Virginia Tech on Oct. 10. The Hokies scored two goals in the second half to tie the game at 3-3, before senior Shayla Smart netted the game-winner for Wake Forest in the 64th minute.
Wake leads the ACC this season with 265 shot attempts. Defensively, the Demon Deacons' seven goals allowed are tied for the fewest among ACC teams.
Smart's nine goals on the season lead the team and are tied for third in the conference, while her 19 points are tied for sixth.
Graduate student Jenna Menta (five goals, five assists) and redshirt senior Sofia Rossi (six goals, three assists) enter Friday with 15 points apiece.
Redshirt sophomore Kaitlyn Parks has started 12 of Wake's 14 matches in goal, recording 38 saves. Her .864 save percentage and seven shutouts both lead the ACC.
LAST TIME OUT: DUKE 5, PITTSBURGH 0
After suffering its first home loss of the season on Oct. 7, Duke answered the bell with a dominant 5-0 win over Pittsburgh on Sunday, Oct. 10.
Sophomore Katie Groffscored her first two career goals in the opening 12 minutes to get the Blue Devils rolling. Groff headed in a corner kick at the 8:17 mark before firing a left-footed strike into the bottom right corner off a set piece at 11:52.
Graduate student Tess Boade netted her fifth goal of the season in the 51st minute on a feed from senior Sydney Simmons, who picked up her first career assist.
Simmons dished out another helper five minutes later, as she fed the ball to freshman Michelle Cooper near the top of the box and watched Cooper drill her low shot past the Panther goalkeeper.
Senior Marykate McGuire put on the finishing touches in the 90th minute with her fourth goal of the season. Junior transfer Bria Schrotenboer got her first career assist on the play.
With the match in hand early, 24 total Blue Devils saw the pitch, including each of the three goalkeepers -- Ruthie Jones (70 minutes), Maddie Nielsen (14 minutes) and Holland Stam (six minutes).
DUKE ON THE ROAD
Duke enters Friday's match having won six of its last nine road contests.
The Blue Devils are 8-4-1 in their last 13 road games dating back to the start of the 2020-21 season and have outscored their opponents 22-11 in that stretch.
Duke is 2-1-1 away from home this season, with wins at Vanderbilt on Aug. 29 and at No. 2 North Carolina on Sept. 17. The Blue Devils have given up just two goals in their four road matches.
The six road wins last season were Duke's most since the 2017 campaign.
STORMING OUT OF HALFTIME
The Blue Devils have outscored their opponents 18-4 in the second half of games this season, with eight of those goals coming in the first 10 minutes after the break.
The Blue Devils have outshot opponents 118-36 in the second half.
Duke is 8-1-0 when scoring first this season and 4-2-1 when the match is tied at halftime.
Each of Tess Boade's five goals this season have come in the second half, including her game-winner in the 55th minute at North Carolina on Sept. 17.
In the season opener against Arkansas on Aug. 19, Duke scored each of its two penalty kick goals in the first six minutes out of halftime to build a 3-1 lead.
