DURHAM, N.C.-- Duke graduate student goalkeeper
Grace Brightbill has been selected as Duke's PNC Achiever's Student Athlete of the Week after a stellar performance in her first career start in a 5-1 victory over No. 17 Old Dominion Sunday.
Brightbill was outstanding in her 56 minutes of action, making a career-high eight saves. The Alexandria, Va., native was excellent in leading the defense to shutting down the Monarchs, stopping the visitors on 10 penalty corners. She played a career-high minutes as well, anchoring the defense for 56:30 before being spelled by
Charlotte Johnson for the final 3:30. Her previous season high was four saves.
The Blue Devils close out their home slate Saturday, Oct. 16 against No. 7 Syracuse. First hit is set for 12 p.m., and Duke will honor its graduate students and seniors following the game.
PNC Achievers is a student honors platform that is active at nearly 20 schools and universities across PNC Bank's service area. Honorees are selected locally by designated panels at each respective school, using a set of criteria that includes athletic accomplishments, academic achievement, community service and student leadership.
